MUSIC DEPARTMENT
Carla Harewood, Music Coordinator
Mission statement
As in ancient times, music plays an integral part of our worship service. Its purpose is to express our joy and thanksgiving for God’s blessings and mercies, seek His forgiveness and petition His guidance in times of trial. It is a “precious gift of God, designed to uplift the thoughts to high and noble themes, to inspire and elevate the soul.
(Ellen G. White, Education, p. 167-68).
The goal of the Music Department is to present sacred music that has beauty, pathos and power. We intend to lift our voices in songs of praise and devotion, with the use of instrumental music that aids in presenting acceptable offerings to God.
The Jamaica SDA Church is blessed to have several choirs, groups and soloists that use their talents in various genres, including classical, gospel and contemporary music.
We invite you to come in and join us in singing songs of praise to God any Sabbath you are in the Jamaica, New York area. “Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and extol Him with music and song.”
(Psalm 95:1,2).
